In fact, a recent survey conducted by Insuranks found that a whopping 93% of Americans have a side job, with the most common reason being for something to do that earns them a bit of extra cash (66%). Others have a side job out of necessity, with 44% saying they work an extra job to make ends meet and pay bills, and an additional 28% stating that they took on a side gig due to inflation driving up costs.

“With freelance writing, you can set your own hours and work from home or wherever you have an internet connection,” Shafae said. “To get started, you may want to consider creating a portfolio of your work and marketing yourself to potential clients. In this role, you provide administrative support to clients from wherever you are. Responsibilities may include scheduling appointments, managing emails, organizing files and managing projects.
“You can charge clients on an hourly basis or work out a flat rate for each task,” Shafae said. “To get started, you can create a profile on freelance websites and start marketing yourself. You can also reach out to remote companies or individuals who may be looking for virtual assistant help.
