Especially when there are pr*stitutes in the next room servicing their clients while your daughters listen as they try to do homework.
That’s the life of my friend. He’s been broke for over a decade.
The thing is he’s bloody smart. He has some of the best business ideas I’ve ever heard. In his early 20s he executed on those ideas. They made him stupidly rich.
Then he lost it all.
His smoking habit got worse. His lungs became charcoal. His voice began to deteriorate so he got smoker’s voice. The energy leaked out of him, slowly.
I realized the other night what made him remain broke. He’s kept having new ideas and chasing get-rich-quick fantasies.
But he hasn’t executed on an idea for years.
I said to him “make one $20 sale. The evidence will snap your love affair with ideas in two.” Execute on one idea rather than have good ideas
Lack of execution is the first thing that keeps us broke. An accidental closed mind
Before you think I’m some Aussie millionaire that’s never gone broke, think again. I’ve spent much of my life broke .
I’ve lost it all multiple times.
That experience is what helps me understand what keeps us broke. The biggest reason I stayed broke was a closed mind.
Humans are born to be full of fear and stay away from danger. I never made a dollar online for a long time because my skepticism said “that’s a scam, and that guy’s a con man, and that market is saturated.”
I could tell you every reason why it wouldn’t work, never why it could. Full of problems, zero solutions.
So when two high school friends quit playing football to get into network marketing and got to drive around town in red Ferraris … I listened.
I decided not to join the pyramid scheme and harass my friends. But I did see the bug in my mind’s software.
Opportunities are everywhere. Refusing to see them keeps you broke. The 20% ass bleeder
When I worked in a call center I didn’t have much money.Friends were going on a holiday to the Great Barrier Reef. I wanted to go and couldn’t afford it. I wrestled with the idea of getting a credit card. The interest-free period is typically 30 days. I tried to cheat myself into believing I could pay it back in that time. If not, the interest would be 20%. I opted out. Earning minimum wage as well as debt is even more stressful.A credit card borrows money from your future so you can spend it today. A wealthy mindset does the opposite. Borrow money from today to improve your future. That’s what investing in financial assets does. These days I’m broke. I don’t have much free cash because it’s all tied up in investing. My investing habit last year reached a point where working a job was no longer needed. That’s what I mean by borrow from the present to improve the future.Live paycheck to paycheck while your investments create financial freedom . This place steals money from your pocket in broad daylight The shopping mall should be illegal.Countless times I hear friends and family say “We’re just going to look around at the mall and have a bite to eat.”They never come home empty-handed. It’s impossible. The mall isn’t a place to hang out and be bored. The retail shops are designed to cleverly extract money from your Visa or Mastercard, better than David Blaine’s magic trick of making a $100 bill disappear.Be bored at home. Start a side hustle and channel your boredom there. Common tripe that brainwashes you Every startup guru in the world says “build a product that solves a problem.”What this has done is make average people think they need solutions to problems they don’t really have.Marketing gurus are paid to create problems and use cultish, emotional manipulation to make you want the solution. Not every problem is a big deal and needs to get solved with money.Life is meant to be full of problems. If you can’t handle problems and want to solve them all by spending money, frankly, you’re a psychopath. All I have to do is look around the home. All I see is dumb stuff I bought years ago to solve problems I don’t really have.Worry about food, shelter, and paying bills. All the other supposed problems are likely a consumerism illusion.
