I’m really looking forward to sitting down in the studio with today’s guest. He is someone that for me, represents the massive shift we have seen and are currently seeing in the world of technology and the huge strides in innovation that have taken place over the last year or so.
This is a truly transformative time and even those that are less articulate in the DeFi, cryptocurrency and blockchain space, will be more than aware of the incremental changes that are taking place regarding how we conduct commerce, socialise, experience entertainment or share our lives with one another.
Sami Chlagou is a video game developer, entrepreneur and sometime movie producer who is the CEO and co-founder of Cross the Ages , a unique and innovative metaverse and digital collectable card game that will launch on the Polygon Network this coming April.
Sami’s knowledge and experience are forged in the world of video game technology and he has been at the forefront of the huge boom in gaming we’ve seen in recent years across the globe. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry, larger itself than Hollywood or the NFL and in 2020 the global gaming audience spent approximately $54 billion on additional in-game content, something that is expected to rise to $75 billion by 2025.
Sami’s company has produced more than 50 video games for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox, Steam and Android , to name but a few and with that influence and understanding, he was able to begin his most ambitious project to date.
Cross the Ages is an enormous undertaking and one that is causing seismic waves through the blockchain industry and if Sami and his highly experienced team’s plans transpire accordingly, will help bridge the gap between the worlds of gaming and cryptocurrency, creating a potentially hugely profitable industry.
Cross the Ages itself is a multi-layered concept. Firstly, it is an application for collecting game cards, but in reality, it is so much more. It is a dystopic universe, brought to life by a seven-volume series of books that combine fantasy and sci-fi and chronicle the story of two worlds Arkhanis and Orbitalia thrust together in a desperate plight to avoid mass extinction.
Through the video game, players are able to step head first into this all-encompassing world and the playing experience is based on collecting cards through well thought out strategy. Players are able to mint their own cards and bet on specific cards they acquire to reap as much as 10x or even 20x gains.
The game also offers ownable, fully-secured NFTs issued on the Polygon blockchain and advanced tokenomics with features such as asset staking , whereby players can stake the assets they accumulate through playing the game for long-term liquidity. This unique approach is something Sami and many others believe will allow users to become more comfortable with blockchain technology and in turn, create a wave of mainstream adoption.
Sami has brought together a team of artists, writers, designers and producers from all over the world and some of the most talented in the entertainment industry, to bring the Cross the Ages concept to fruition. There are 134 people working on the team, some of whom have worked on Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Marvel, Avatar and League of Legends.
This in itself underlines just how much talent is moving into the space on a week-by-week basis. People from all kinds of industries are finding opportunities they had previously never imagined possible in cryptocurrency and the blockchain.
Like when I looked at Decentralised Finance, and quickly realised that this was going to revolutionise the concept of money for billions of people around the world, giving ordinary people the financial freedom they deserve.
